About Rene Churchill

I'm Rene Churchill and this is my little corner of the Web. I've been programming since I was in the 8th grade (man, that was a long time ago) when I started on a PDP-11 with paper terminals.

After graduating from the University of Vermont with an Electrical Engineering degree, I moved down to Massachusetts and started working for a Gateway Design, the company that created VHDL, a circuit design language. I worked on Veritime, a digital timing analysis product. Gateway was bought up by Cadence Design Systems.

I left Cadence and started working for Viewlogic Systems as a release engineer. I rewrote their Unix software build system so that the nightly builds were automated. At the end of that project, it would compile 4 million lines of code on 5 different Unix platforms, install the resulting executables and then run around 16,000 regression tests. Every night. It was at this point that I started getting into HTML so that the build reports could be seen by everyone in the company without them having to call or email me.

After spending 10 years living in Mass, I decided it was time to return home to Vermont and start my own company. Thus Astute Computing was founded in 1998 (as Vermont Web Wizard) to build data driven websites for the Internet.

From the beginning I have worked hard to earn a reputation for high quality work, honesty, devotion to my clients and solid deliverables. As a one man operation located deep in the Green Mountains of Vermont, I believe that what sets Astute Computing apart is the custom level of service I provide to each and every client. My top priority is to work with clients to develop and deliver quality applications that support their business needs. Most of my clients are repeat customers that have been working with me for years. Contact me to see what I can do for you.

Outside of programming, I'm a father of three sons, a husband and you can usually find me shooting skeet in Waterbury on Tuesday nights. At least during the summer.
